Thought Experiment Girls - Ch. 1

My personal favorite response to the trolley problem was when Mark Rosewater answered it from the perspective of the five colors in Magic: the Gathering.

White: Pull the lever because the needs of the group are more important than the needs of the individual.
Blue: Pull the lever because it's the logical course of action that saves the most people.
Black: I pick whichever option I stand to benefit from more.
Green: Don't pull the lever, it's not our place to intervene in the natural course of events.
Red: I reject the premise of the thought experiment and save all six people.

For me, I'd let the cart go at the five people. As a group, they could probably brace and being it to a halt. You end up at worst with 5 people with minor (no pun intended) injuries instead of one gravely injured/dead person.

Set it to hit the one person and then spend the time before the train arrives attempting to rescue that one person instead of the group of five. Maxuim odds of no death. Or if your just want to be efficient blow up the trolly.

You tell the one person to go to the other track and hit them all. MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY
