soooo my guess is fukatsu actually sees how other people feel inside, the color means their feelings or emotions, the shape is their personality which can change after a certain event happens to them (square guy became oval when he reconciled with his bro) and so fukatsu can know what they are feeling. the problem is that he as well as his family confuse this with identity recognition disorder or whatever the name is....
