@Solipsist Yah I can understand a bit where you are coming from. As a common man who doesn't get the cheffy vocab I could more easily understand if you could just add -ness to the japanese word "umami". I.E. Cut the meat so the dish absorbs more of that umami-ness (the quality of umami), while also being the source of the umami. Clearly since it is a japanese word with normal japanese grammar that I don't know of, we can't do that.

@Kaarme yeah he is such trash on that note... He's emotionally divorced himself from everything in that world and is going through it like he's completing a bucket list.

Even if his ability to safely log out were removed, which I think might happen as a plot device further along as his equipment developed and his "beats the game"... I don't think his detachment will allow him to functionally accept that the "people" he's been playing with are truly people and not scripted NPCs he's been using for his own benefit.

I didn't say it "doesn't exist". I said I saw more examples of people using that word to sound profound (i.e: random youtube chefs), while it ends up making no sense at all.
I feel like @Fierbras and manhunt0r pretty much nailed how I feel about it.
P.S: Just saying, on the first line of the Wiki page about Umami, it says it is among the 5 senses, not being the sixth.
