And yes, i have to agree Tomo as Prince is cliche as heck. If i may say, i prefer Tomo as wicked stepmother if she can't be a princess because it will be a lot more funny that way.

You're right, anime/manga basically run on tropes. But to be remembered too that tropes themselves are just tool. A story using a certain tropes didn't automatically makes that story good or bad, that still depend on how well the writer utilize said Trope.
