@Plykiya @anotherone @linette .... keep in mind Hourou Musukou isnt really crossdressing, they are trans so while it may look similar it comes with different emotions and feelings of discovery... it is also why it didnt really have a fairy tale ending, it was supposed to be more representative of the struggles transpeople face in society (especially at the time of writing) and so obviously it wouldnt have much of a happy ending. when you consider that Hourou Musukou was a great manga, one of the best mangas in existence when it comes to trans topics (most genderbenders are just "put cishet boy inside a girl body" sometimes they end up liking men who knows, and many crossdressing is more of a gag where they are forced into it some way)... even if the manga is a bit outdated with its information.

@Nari I'd say whether or not it's crossdressing has more to do with how the person doing it defines it. Japan isn't too on board the politically correct train so even in instances where there's a transgender or questioning character they still might say what they're doing is crossdressing more often than not. Pretty sure that's what happens in Hourou Musuko. Nothing wrong with calling it crossdressing if it's how they themselves define it, but it is rude to call it crossdressing when a trans person does it and they just consider it dressing normally

@Plykiya yeah thats the point though, the MC of Hourou Musukou is actually trans, hence its rude to call it crossdressing because saying a transgirl who wears girl clothes is "crossdressing" implies you believe the transgirl is not actually a girl. im not sure about the FtM character of the story, that part got confusing at the end, but the MC was clearly written as trans

sometimes however a transperson may call it crossdressing early on, but this is because they themselves dont yet see themselves as a girl or boy, im trans myself, i know this from experience, but that still doesnt change the fact that its not actually crossdressing as a transgirl is a girl, not a boy dressing as a girl.
