@Tersione hmmmmm... I suspected the snake as well but in Japanese myths white snakes are good omens since they're the messenger of the gods, like the kitsune that serve Inari-sama (or Ukanomitama-sama)... Maybe just like Jirou said: the gods don't say anything but they listen and they're watching over us?
