My theory is that Sakurai realized that Yuki liked him, but also knew that his friend Daichi had a crush on her... so him, being the selfless saint that he is, took himself out of the picture so he wouldn't be an impediment. In fact, that's what the conversation between the two is really about.

Backstory for Sakurai? My headcanon is that he travelled the world to help more people and along the way received unimaginable amount of wealth allowing him to live like this.

My guess is that he suddenly disappeared because their parents died. Either he needed to work to take care of his younger bro, or they went to live with a relative.

This is a surprising amount of backstory on Sakurai and his old crew. Apparently, he had been like this even in the past and was never actually a delinquent in the first place. People simply assumed he was one thanks to hanging out with them. It doesn't help that he looks the part.

In any case, it'd be nice to see more of his old friends and figure out exactly why he disappeared all of a sudden.
