Thats sad. The fact that he journeyed way back to mt. katsuragi means that he cant fulfill his own-sided promise to koto—that is to become a sennin. so that he can heal and care for her—disregards of time and space as he want to keep remain by her side. Now he has chosen to return for another cause—that is for turning zen back to normal, which i think of a cause that she will accept out of relief—knowing how good/kind of a person he is.

Remember that she said it herself that he was not a monster! That he doesnt need to become one just for her cause! And turns out indeed—he choose to save zen as he is not a monster, just like what she has said.

Though it might be because of his ego/love that she decided to outweighed them herself with her powers. So she said that to him—so he wont ever be a sennin—a monster. "Good in single word. Evil in single word. A single word from her, and the world follows suit". The moment she said that, there was no chance for him to fulfill his promise.

But the fate/future that has been revealed by that time traveled kid is so painful. Now he know that he would eventually be the one to exorcized her in someway or another because of that fate is just

But where did the mist come from?

@Ironclad Maybe the remnants of the event that made the little tensen become lost. Going by how she still is an ascended being even being a child to have been separated from the rest of her family some... let's say, for lack of a better term, an otherworldly event happened and the output of energy left a mist that interfered with senses.

Pretty big interference if it was needed a miniature black hole to get ride of it.

Can't give a better explanation, the only certainty i have is that the mist wasn't the doing of the little tensen.

I love the way these Sacred Treasures come back into play in later chapters but never overstay their welcome. Using Ten-no-Ooido was a terrifying prospect.
