the series really improves after the 13 translated chapters
xing ge grows to be really competent and tough and it reminds me of a LOT of akatsuki no yona,
spoiled princess protag, becomes a fugitive with a group of good looking men, cuts her hair, becomes tough
the art is absolutely sensational a real home run. in some ways reminds me of clamp and always stunning. each page looks like it belongs in an art museum
the story itself is rougher. often times confusing and meandering it doesn't follow a straight forward path and this design is honestly to the series' deficit. it's a bit of a shame the stunning art couldn't match up with the lacklustre story. also the random comedic shifts were so incredibly jarring and out of place in this story
plot aside i do like the world building in this story and i think that is what really sets it apart from yona
ALSO DALIKA BEST BOY
tbh xing ge stops being the main character after a while
they spend a good 20 chapters switching perspective to first lincoln + dalika and then to this random new guy
think the author forgot about her LOL
ultimately this story is about ending the cycle of hatred, found family and becoming our own person separate from the confines of the family. when it's not being purposefully obtuse it's brilliant. it has utterly fantastic world building and xing ge truly comes into her own. the art is stunning and i did genuinely enjoy some of these guy's backstories
it's not a perfect story by any stretch of the imagination, but it's one worth reading
there are some part of it that are very of its time and that dates it but it still succeeds in spite of that. there were some jaw droppingly beautiful moments throughout this long series. it lost itself a few times but stuck the landing, though the ending was admittedly a little rushed feeling. could have really used an epilogue
