Frankly, female knights would be rare, so from a purely statistical point of view it would have been more likely she was just a rich woman with the same name(since photos didn't exist then, it would have been impossible to know how she looked like)

You can't protect your loved ones without power. She was a hero who won the war but because she turned down the title, she can't even protect her brother who had to force himself to accompany the bitch to the party.
If Wilkins didn't appear to "certify" her identity, then what is she going to do? As if snapping the bastard's fingers would make things go away. For all the years she was in the battlefield, it's amazing how she didn't even learn how to use resources at her disposal. There's nothing shameful about killing your enemies. In life, all is fair in love and war.
