Makoto is actually a good leader, its for the best that his naivete about hyumanity's inherent integrity was blown away so he can rule more efficiently. It was horrible but in the long run, it's for the best. On the other hand, as a person it will take him a long time to recover from this incident, even if he looks like/ thinks he's fine.
