For those that didn't get why cutting his hand off worked:
He bound his cut-off hand to his sword, best seen on page 7, which made it look like he was holding the sword higher than he actually was. His working hand was obscured by the bound one, so the demon misjudged Seran's reach. If he just held his sword lower like some here suggested then the demon would've accurately judged the distance.

@bushwhacker2k Yeah man don't you remember all the other times this manga established healing magic and then there is that white mage in their party that has been healing them in all the fights.

Whoops that was some other rpg I was playing. They just got the housewife girl with some bandages.

This is well known that this manga can't write a fight at all. Next that MC will decapitate himself to trick everyone into thinking he is shorter to get on all the rides at Disney world for free.
