Well, usually a system like that requires it to be single combat and with designated judges, such as the case with pre-catholic Scandinavia. Just think of it as a bad copy of the real world version~ XD
Hmm, so I guess we are eventually going to get the backstory. So far everything he thought he knew about his past life has been turned upside down, so time for some more revelations.
@givemersspls Well that happens to lions (ganging up), so maybe it could work?
Concept of strong rules is simple if the fight is combat to the death: In this hypothetical scenario, there's one demon lord, who kills them one on one becomes new lord. If lord dies to humans or disease, curse or whatever, demons place their candidacy, fight one on one until only one remains. It works because magic exists (and maybe healing magic) which can allow the victor to recuperate wounds upon victory
I feel like the MC is too weak to be the second hero to defeat the demon lord, just to reach the demon lord it should demand a lot of power, but they have been down playing his strenght a lot even though he should be even stronger now.
@givemersspls I agree that Hiraheishi did a better job on the emotional aspect, though I wonder how much of that is due to the artwork; New Saga's artwork feels kind of rough, almost sketch-like, so all but the most extreme emotional expressions feel... Muted, is the best word I can think of to describe it. Hiraheishi's feels more vibrant, in a way. I also have to wonder how much of it has to do with how Hiraheishi's protagonist shared his past life with his parents, whereas New Saga's MC has kept everything to himself, so the other characters come off as being less involved. At least, that's my take on it.
As for the demons' "Might is Right" system of rule, I'd imagine it's single combat to the death or surrender and it can only be a single ruler because if you had to gang up on the current ruler, you weren't strong enough to defeat them on your own merits, so the challenge would be seen as invalid and would probably result in the current ruler's supporters assassinating the challengers or just devolve into a full on civil war to determine the strongest. As you say, it doesn't really matter, but it'd be interesting if they explored it more fully.
@givemersspls
You're skipping completely the part where a king isn't a king if he isn't followed by his subjects. That's only simple ways of choosing someone. How would anyone picked by a lottery be followed (unless there's some religion based around it)? And choosing an heir is basically hereditary monarchy... Which wasn't simple either
You know, after checking out the german group's scan quality after seeing a comment I'm pretty disappointed the english scans look like 144p trash Are these super low quality scans that cheap/free compared to the high quality ones? Or are they just hard to get?
