I honestly feel this would have hit the heartstrings harder without the last twist.

It's a "love is where you least expect it / closer than you expect" scenario either way, but it comes off as a bit trite and maybe even porno-ish when it's ultimately presented in this form of, "actually your TV was a hot girl all along".
