Unremovable New Mail Notification

I had a couple of the harassment spam mails today and sensibly selected and deleted them all, but since I didn't read two of the three, I now have a new mail notification for 2 mails that I cannot remove. Is there any way of fixing this, because it's kind of annoying?

i think you still can read them from the bin

@hazzack Thanks, by the time I saw your reply they'd vanished entirely along with the notification. Probably the account was deleted by admins. I made sure to read the four new harassment spam before deleting them this time.
