I guess I was wrong, Kaji must have "gambled" with Nobuko. But it was probably something extremely simple that Hal told Nobuko to take a dive on. To ensure collection of the gamble, Kakerou is now obligated to protect Nobuko and ensure she able to escape the island safely.
