When I finished reading the novel, I really can't move on from this ship like, Eclis is my fav and it really breaks my heart

It is true about everyone programmed to hate Penelope but to be precise, I think the real reason in the novel is because

the goddess of the game and Yvone cursed Penelope for everyone to indiscriminately hate Penelope with dark magic

@SoulOverCaos Survival instincts? Penelope suddenly sprouted a backbone and started wielding her power properly; the maid appears savvy enough to realize she's in deep shit and needs to get on Penelope's good side. If the characters have started acting for themselves, then it makes sense for the maid to stop acting like a villain just for the sake of it (for instance, because the game's script requires her to) and start acting in her own self-interest.
