Shouldnt she think it's the opposite for iklies? I dont really think hes putting on an act seeing as his status bar increases over time...but maybe she didnt notice it because of the rain
Also anyone in the situation would be on guard likeee is he supposed to tell her presence by sixth sense? Asdhjkl
@Soo-ji_Queen
I guess the protagonist knows how "everything that goes up fast goes down fast. " An affection that grows dizzyingly every time the two exchange a word is certainly an unstable affection without any basis, created mainly by personal preconceptions and expectations.
The kind of affection that immediately collapses and turns into contempt and hatred at the first difficulty.
this is where she realizes how bad a situation she's in, that even if she doesn't make someone angry enough to kill her, the universe could decide it didn't like what she just said/did and have her accidentally fall on a sword and die.
Eclis didn't take the ring though even though he had easy access so I feel like he's kinda okay? Literally coulda just taken the ring knocked the girl out and yeeted himself away to freedom
@Soo-ji_Queen i love ikies sm too but i think the problem is affection still doesnt erase the fact that hes dangerous and cant be trsuted. in a sense, it can even be more fearsome knowing someone who has killed and CAN still kill is becoming closer to you.
tldr affection =/= how dangerous he is and remember that this game is hard mode, so affection can be lost at any time and death can come at any moment
@Darkyan97 same. im also not over the fact that the brothers act so nice NOW when mc truly needed it as a child picked up acicdentally and mocked by those around her. also, the fact that the brother gaslighted mc for acting up despite knowing she was fed moldy food makes me go ???
they only respect her existence when mc is appealing to their taste LMFAO
I think Penelope is an unreliable narrator, in that she underestimates the impact she has on the characters. Eclis probably really did mean those things, but she assumed he was lying, because she was just saying what she thought she needed to.
This story really is doing a good job at making her acting to try and save her life. Too many make few changes or take it easy while here she's realising her actions may not work here despite her best effects and is carefully considering both her words and a backup plan.
Am the only 1 who has a feeling in her guts that Yvonne is the actual bitch in real life of the story?
idk I feel like she's going to show us her true identity
Wow. I didn't pick up on it as well, but apparently, he's just faking it? He's faking quite well, but I guess it makes sense since he's in a similar precarious situation as she is.
@TakeiDaloui I agree, they're really emphasizing how actively hostile this world is. I really like that she truly understands she's going to have to work to prevent a bad end, too many of these stories have this so called "horrible villainess" avoid her flags just by existing and being nice. Don't get me wrong they're tons of fun to read, but it can be jarring having a main that knows there are several terrible, and somewhat random, ways for her to die and they grin and go "I'll make friends at a tea party! Yeah!" XD
@PaperSun Pretty much. They work for comedy stuff or stuff more centred around slice of life stuff. But this kind of story has really leaned on the potential doom aspect from the start, which has meant being nice isn't going to cut it. And she isn't nice as a result in how she acts. She's manipulated others, learned to use her station correctly, and is playing the cards she has to do whatever she has to if it means surviving. Without the right tone, none of it would have the same impact.
