I really appreciate the lengths the author goes to to show how peoples traumas shape their actions. Penelope interesting and understandable from a readers POV but ultimately unlikeable. Itās a more realistic outcome for a girl raised in poverty transplanted into nobility to be āimpoliteā and lash out rather than demure and sweet and intelligent and kind and winning everyoneās hearts, lol. I wonder if thatās the part Yvonne is going to play once she debuts in the story.
Penelope and Siyeon are two different characters with similar circumstances, so I like how Siyeon was transplanted into Penelopeās body. Itās almost like some higher power saw her playing the game and was like āyouāre the only one with the experience/tools/mindset to handle this mess.ā The flashbacks we get of MCās original life are limited but it makes me wonder if Penelopeās āhave an outburstā style would have worked better with Siyeonās family instead of her own ābecome a recluseā reaction.
That āI was only a 12 year old childā line hit hard and Iām really glad the author included it. Itās a reflection of a real-world problem a lot of people in their early 20ās are grappling with. If ur still mad at someone for what they did as a kid arenāt you actually mad at a 12 year old for acting 12? How pathetic is that? We all have to sort it out for ourselves.
I do kind of like Reynardās character coming from a point of understanding he lost his mom and his little sister. Itās understandable to be wary of a new step parent, especially after hours has died, but that same feeling directed at a little girl if oof ouch my heart. āYouāre not my real sisterā but sheās a child and canāt raise above or do anything about her situation, and she has no percents to lean on or support her. Reynard didnāt have anyone to help process the complicated feelings he was having either. This whole time Iāve been reading Ive been getting steadily more and more mad at their father. for whatever reason he didnāt mediate bringing Penelope into the family at ALL and thatās the root 90% of the problems here.
I hope we see more of the prince next season just for bias reasons, lol.
