Vinland Saga - Vol. 12 Ch. 79 - Looming of Dark Clouds

Wait they had bibles translated into danish in the 11th century? wouldn't this be right around the peak of the catholic church? Or does snake read latin?

@kebb bibles were translated much earlier than the sixteenth century (with the rise of protestantism) but they generally were not complete translations, and as they were hand written and not mass produced before the printing press there is no registry of (most of) those translations. Another possiblity here is that they are not speaking danish, but english, since the the vinking spent a long time invading england it would'nt be so strange if some of them learned the language and even stole a bible.

This or the author didn't really think this through 😅

@Mikewara Understandable, but surely a decorated huge hand-written translated bible wouldn't see itself in the hands of farmers? Who I also believe aren't vikings, but lifelong farmers in denmark.

I guess it's not impossible for me to suspend my disbelief for some commentary on christianity, but it's still weird. It's also weird for a farmer and bodyguard to be able to speak and write in both english and danish in the 11th century.
