Something to note is Japanese curry has more in common with colonial-era British curries than the original Indian ones, since the British brought their fusion version to Japan after it opened up in the Meiji era.

IIRC the colonial recipes have largely fallen out of favour in Britain; most prefer to go for the original Indian subcontinent versions.
