Its a dick move for sure, but it's not THAT big of a deal, pretty sure there are a lot of worse people out there.
People are going to be mad over it for a week or two, but afterwards, they are going to get over it and try again later.
it's not like he ruined an entire faction by stealing the entire guild bank and disbanding it afterwards making its members lose years of progress.

I agree with you. Except that little tidbit is going to be ignored, judging by that guy's face.
I'm fine with 'gray' protagonists. They feel a lot more realistic than a shounen character and their willpower and power of friendship winning everything. Or the other end of the spectrum, the bat**it protags who were betrayed, killed, etc and go on horrible vendettas.
