@You The white-haired guy is the emperor of the Han kingdom, which was being invaded by the Jin kingdom (where purple-haired girl is from). Red-haired guy is the emperor of the Cho kingdom and helped the Han kingdom during the war.

@LynnMacy seems like the Jin kingdom was desperate because they were losing, so they were going to offer her (a random pretty girl at that time) as a sacrifice to the gods so that they could win the war. Didn't work, she was saved and was taken in by the Han kingdom's emperor (white hair guy) and became the heavenly maiden. Since he saved her it makes sense why she's in love with him.
