Why do translators prefer to translate copy pasted series rather than original ones?

Ive noticed that series with copy pasted "plots" that basically boil down to "MC gets OP powers and a harem in the first volume" or "MC gets isekaied as an otome game villainess and then gets pampered by handsome men who dont mind being strung along forever" tend to get far more consistent translations while lots of series that have more original storylines/settings/characters tend to have translations that end up stalling. Stuff like Immortal Hounds, Red Eyes or Rose of Versailles comes to mind.

Seems strange to me. Why would you translate a series that is 95% the same as the dozen other series that are already being translated? If you wanted to read a story like that, well good news, theres more than a dozen other near exact series that have translations, so knock yourselves out. But when you find an original series with a stalled translation, you cant do the same thing. I cant imagine a scenario where someone finds a copypasted series and goes "oh hey, this is almost exactly the same as the dozen other series already being translated, I will do this one to join in!". A scenario where someone goes "Hey, this is pretty original and interesting, I will start translating this one" seems far more plausible to me.

Is there some kind of contest where the rules state that you must submit translations for a copypasted series in order to qualify or something?

Because those are the series they like or want to do. Just because i've seen something a hundred times doesn't mean something new can't happen take for example the isekai genre most
of it is trash but every once in a while we get a gem.

I won't be surprised if it turns out translations for some popular manga is just a slightly different but essentially the same translation from another popular manga which shares a similar plot.

So you are basicly QQing that your favorite series which only you read was dropped? You know there's 2 easy ways to get what you want (if you don't want to patiently wait for free stuff) - you do it yourself or you pay for it.
Did you consider these options?

Nobody's stopping you from learning Japanese to read/translate those unique manga yourself.
Change yourself before you try to change the others.

I'ma be real with you brother, I will read the same shoujo romance plotline flavored with different characters until the end of time because I'm autistic I just can't get enough of objectively bad manga.

also I liked immortal hounds so I guess I'm gonna have to go look into those other ones thanks for the req.

+1 for learning nihongo tho, you can read whatever the fuck you want if you do. Hell if my translation group has taught me anything, all you really need to know is your kana and maybe download a kanji recognizer and you're set. Google translate usually gets the general gyst of it across, it's time consuming but hey, beggars can't be choosers right? 😉

Honestly. What's with this constant complaints on what scanlators choose to scanlate??

@gomichandesu

"Dumpster diving" into mangadex new releases every few hours is truly one of my favorite pastimes. Youll never know what genuine gem or "brilliantly bad" manga you can find.

Some days I find Yukionna to Kani o Kuu, other days I find Virgin Terminator Girlfriend. It's great!
