An animation would be awesome, but I doubt that they can catch the high-quality fairy-tale-ish children-book style for an animation, which is a discerning quality of this manga. And they would burn through the storyline and I'd rather not see boring LQ filler arcs.
They might catch the lose in quality with a good, fitting romantic OST. See Spice&Wolf's OPs 1&2 for a working fairy-tale-estique intro for an anime.

As much as I'd love to see this story in motion, that's something I'm very much afraid too of because of how detailed Shirahama's linework is. They'll come close enough to satisfy a lot of people no doubt, but it would be incredibly work intensive to try to approach the art style for this manga. I'm hoping when they inevitably do make an anime, they can close the linework gap by focusing on her coloring style and gunning for a really subtle earthy palette, or by texturing the show so it feels papery, like they did with ACCA 13 or with the opening for Carole and Tuesday.

Knowing anime industry standards though I feel like it's just going to become gradient hell...
