I understand why Charles did what he did, and there's a lifetime of insecurity and emotional trauma there. But I really dislike how his actions have caused trouble for Theo, Marie and everyone else - hopefully he takes personal responsibility for his actions, rather than letting the blame be pointed solely at Theo and Marie.

Theo's thinking is super flawed. He isn't forgiving Charles he's choosing to stay ignorant of the fact that Charles caused physical and mental harm. Doesn't matter the reason behind it, once an action is done the consequences must be felt.
