weird Asian things, you need to be a certain age to enter school. since school year starts in April, if you born in March you're considered 1 year older

In answer to your question in Japan the School year starts in spring so whereas in the west the school year cut of is August 31st in Japan its March 31st. This means if Yuu was born 1 week earlier (March) she'd go from the oldest Freshman to the youngest Junior as her birthday would have been in the previous school year. Its why they have all the summer homework and activities whereas here we're abandoned as we are between years
