@SchultzD you, don't know a thing called "Character Development".
He went from being a chill and passive guy to Someone caring(plus to his own Girlfriend who he really loves).
What did you want him to do? Kick her and Treat her like he always had? Like passive-aggressive?
If you don't like this then drop it ffs, and find another manga where the guy doesn't change even after dating someone he loves and ignores her like always

True, I don't know what your 'Character Development' is, because behavior patterns' changing in a blink of an eye (the first moment after the confession) because of some trigger (the confession) isn't what I call character development.
He helped Akane more than once even before his lovestruck thing and canines' admiring, so if he wasn't somewhat caring guy from the very beginning he wouldn't make so many girls fall for him and there wouldn't be this title in the first place. Hell, after rethinking I can a bit agree with @Yoshitsune about 'opening up', but it's still too fast for me.
And, Multistanzzz, keep your advices to yourself, especially after assuming that people wish characters from romance manga to go violent out of the blue.
