@lucyshiki - I don't think it's about hiding her gender more like there is not much of an opportunity to reveal her gender. Her dad let her wear girl or boy clothes as she wished growing up. So since the emperor took her in thinking she's a boy, I guess she never really cared to clear up that misunderstanding since she doesn't really care about the emperor and just wants to fulfill her duty as saving her dad.
