I've had the same problem, it seems that writing is lazy. It's still not a plot hole tho, might be defended, as people possess different kinds of intelligence. Dude was some kind of chemist, meeting fellow human being might have shaken her a bit, she focused on showing off, dropped the defenses.
Also might be, that she only claimed that she wants to avoid ppl, but as being social is natural for human beings and we long for companionship, she was quite happy to meet another person.

Yet it should be addressed in manga somehow.
