Man, what the hell did he do to her back in the day? From those first couple of pages, seems like when he was first affianced to her he (1) Wasn't interested in her because she was a 10 year old and anyway he'd never met her . . . fair enough, really, as far as it goes, but also (2) Was a cynical bastard.
