Okaaaay. Why do some of y'all think this is abusive? It's not, amd it's a bit too early to say that it is. This is literally how most parents discipline their children at a young age(especially in thst time period). The mom didn't say she was gong to beat MC ruthlessly. She most likely meant that MC was going to get smacked on the hands or the butt- it stings for a bit but then it goes away.

The parents are quite good from what I've seen anyway. A little excessive but its a story, what can I say?

If Empress is 8 at MC's birthday party, and the Emperor is 15, and he marries her when he's 18, he's marrying an 11yo. Then murders her with a shotgun. Yeah I don't care how traumatized or unloved he might have been, instead of sucking up to him MC should be planning to assassinate before he rises to power. To even think she can change things by becoming the lady-in-waiting, if you think about it more objectively, it feels very far-fetched and she's putting herself and her family in more danger.
Why not think of a way out for your family? Or maybe actually do share the truth with your family and let them help you. Idk why the mcs always have to be alone.

Also, hitting a child as a form of discipline in modern standards is child abuse in most countries. This isn't the case for this time period, though.

To be a lady in waiting you have to be in the same age group, so there's no way a 8 y/o would accompany a 15 y/o. It's nonsensical.
