There's a very nice Tumblr post on this and the following chapters, it shows the character of Hayashiyama very well, people should read it.
Hayashiyama didn't even bother to help Chihiro after she fell because of him, and Yugami had to do it. Hayashiyama doesn't even have a reason to like Chihiro besides that she's cute. I won't spoil the upcoming chapters though, people should read the Tumblr post.

I love, love, LOVE how in-character the cliche "Are you in love with X?" plotline was resolved in this story. Yugami properly thinking through things, the chapter revealing how shallow Hayashima's "love" for Chihiro-chan is, and Chihiro knowing that she isn't some prize to be won but out of her innate kindness permits a movie date anyway just to resolve the whole hullabaloo. As a huge shoujo junkie, I love how these skewer the usual "love at first sight because he was the first person to be kind to me" and "no, I don't like him -> male MC hears, "oh, is that so" and walks away -> gloomy misunderstanding ensues" schticks.

So far, there has been no abrupt romantic epiphany-type of moment which could ruin the rare charm of the series. Everything has been slow and steady and natural. When (not if--it's probably my optimism speaking but I can really see Chihiro and Yugami ending up together, whether explicitly or vaguely) the last chapter comes in, I know I'd really appreciate that while there may be arguably "turning points" in the story for the two, the little things adding up were really what took them to the next phase. No one had to become OOC-- they simply grow up, like real people.

This story has gotten better! I love that Chihiro flat out refuse hayashima's offer to date either yugami or him as a reward for their baseball tournament. While I understand if Chihiro and yugami would never be a thing until the end of manga, I can't help an idea that yugami a little bit interested in chihiro but yugami himself unaware about it. Well, that goes for chihiro too.
