Yuukyuu no Gusha Asley no, Kenja no Susume - Vol. 4 Ch. 19

well shit, she uses it as proper teaching material, and a way to draw more method from mc.
and the mc outplayed her

good chapter

@nfzeta well back in ch. 12, the test last time, he described what he's doing to put out the fire after he moved it outside as absorbing its magic and he can do that without magic circle.
then again, the target is a stray spell, not a human.

then again, maybe he just did the same thing, sapping the magic from the fireball, making the mana consumption to maintain it higher

@nfzeta I don't think you understood @RandomPasserby 's reply. They're saying Asley created scribbles to waste time, so that Irene would think that time passing is why her MP was draining, and not Asley actively draining her MP. Since the series doesn't explain what the actual process of a Mana Drain spell would be, we don't know that it needs a circle. There's also the possibility that he drew a circle we didn't see, or it was mixed in with the scribbles in a way no one would notice.

Either way, the intent is very clear - he was actively draining her mana and disguising it as the natural drain from spell maintenance.

As someone who reads the raws: Asley didn't do a thing. He just waited till she ran out of mana. Even if technically correct, I think "sap" really wasn't the best translation. Better just go with "exhaustion" to make it clear.

@Kamikoto you read raws of the novel or the manga? Anyway, interesting to know he didn't actually cast a spell. Sap is a good word though since Asley is the one causing the exhaustion. Sap - to gradually weaken or destroy (a person's strength or power). He's sapping her strength by stalling, whereas magic exhaustion would be what Irene herself felt.

An experienced mage like Irene would be well aware of her mana limits and would have noticed the drain if she was running out of mana sooner than she expected. Furthermore, she's clearly shown her frustration with passage of time (don't forget she's been repeatedly casting and maintaining the spell since beginning of the class), also means she's well aware of her remaining mana capacity.

The fact that Irene started showing impatience then later sweating (just like an extremely physical athlete up against hard time limit - i.e. football) shows that she's just simply running out of mana rather than having her mana being drained.

I don't think "sap" or "drain" is quite the right words to use here, as that would imply he's actively draining her with a hidden spell or something, as some people here in the comments might think he's doing.

After taking a quick look at the raws, the phrase they used was "maryoku kokatsu" which translates to "magic exhaustion" or "magic depletion".

So all he's doing is literally just waiting it out, until she ran out of mana all on her own. She simply didn't notice her mana running out until near the end because he was using those magic circles that did nothing but waste her time and as a distraction.

The ultimate mega genious incredible secret solution is.......

buy time while the archmage waste her own mana!!!

Hahaha, both of them has sweet revenge.
Nicely done Asley-san, the loli doesn't know how to give up though.

Lol I love this back-and-forth where the old loli is trying to get Asley to spill out his magic knowledge

those three are lucky that ashley affiliation or personality is not that of evil or twisted, if those pettines thrown to people with such mind, they might have traumatic experience right now.

I am hoping next chapter he does not use mana at all and just beats them up using his staff.

I like the part in OP MC storys some high and mighty thinking people get roasted^^ Its a cliche at this time but its always funny^^

I’m enjoying japanese Hogwarts but Pochi really elevates this!
