In the web novel he just revealed his age, the circle wasn't there. I think maybe it's playing off an event that happens later involving a mage that uses black magic called cleat but who knows. It could be something different or just introducing him early as he is a major antagonist later

I’m pretty sure that is the main Plot/theme of the story.
I.e. Why black white system exist in the school, why is it now easier to get to higher grade, why almost nobody seems to know the existence of the demon king, why is that first town was forgotten from many record, why does no one become as op as the so ancient holy warrior... etc

@Eksentrysyti and @Hell_Satan Magic barriers count as support magic right? Asley's Support Magic is only Intermediate level, at least it was a while ago, I'm not sure if it's changed since then. And don't forget he has said repeatedly that 5000 years ago he had very little talent for magic. So it took him almost 5000 years to reach his current strength, while the wise-men are already nearly as strong with only around 80-100 years each. That means they are at least 50x more talented then him, although his strongest abilities are his magicraft skills but those don't count as magic.
