I have seen BL where both protagonists have black hair, but the unspoken trope that one should has a lighter hair colour is so damn strong XD

(But their silhouette is different enough that I wouldn't have ruled him out so quickly. Spiky/smooth hair is one of the most common other differentiators, I feel?)
