You've read this far, and this is the one that seems implausible?

If we speculate that the threads act as conduits not for actual physical force, but for magical physical force (i.e., like the arrow demon that attacked Lady Tamayo) it seems less unreasonable that getting tangled around branches could impede the precision needed for puppeting them effectively -- not to mention keeping them off the ground.
