It has made this manga like any other trash harem out there and has also made previous developments in the narrative lack depth and meaning. Then again, it was my fault for thinking this harem manga was any different from the others.

You just wrote the definition of the “harem” genre. Why are you asking why water is wet? That’s like the entire point of its existence.

If you want something more nuanced but with (seemingly) a harem you will have to look for mangas that officially aren’t in this genre, but actually do have a harem. A good example: Watamote.

If you want something hilarious and self aware, but with actually good writing then I recommend Iyanakao Sarenagara Opantsu Misete Moraitai. The premise might be absurd but it’s actually great.
