In chapter 3, she remembers how she disguised herself as a maid when the palace and herself was captured. She says in a soliloquy in chapter 15 that she's being taken as a prisoner of war to the Lion Palace, and other people comment on how that is unusual for a Cloyan born person to work at the Lion Palace.
"Who could have possibly promoted me to a mid-ranked maid and taken me as a prisoner of war to the Lion Palace..."

Unless there's an unreliable narrator, soliloquies are usually considered to be method of conveying a character's true feelings/thoughts to the audience.

Too bad for those that ship her with the "nice guy" noble, in those kind of shojo the heroine always end with the guy that was an asshole at the start, has the most money/power, met the MC first and got the most screen time.
Nice guy never wins in shojo, they are always just stalking horses.
(and rivals are always evil and written to be easily unlikable)

I don't see why this one would change from the usual formula...

@icekatze After your comment, I went back and reread Chapter 15. I really don't think she's using the term literally. She seems to be calling herself a prisoner of war because this is an undesirable change for her, as though she were a prisoner of war. The way she phrases it makes it look really weird if she actually is a prisoner of war. Oh, I know I'm a prisoner of war right now, but who could've possibly been the person to take me as a prisoner of war to the Lion Palace?

I am willing to say I'm wrong if there's other evidence, but that line looks really, really weird to support that.

In fact, go to Chapter 27 where she claims she's a war prisoner after the prince finds out she's the pianist. Marie specifically says she is a lowly commoner. It is at this point that she makes the claim that she is a prisoner of war to hide the source of her skills.

I really hope this stuff she is keeping down wont make her do stupid shit later. Don't see a reason as to why she would be that mad anyway, since all blunt girl did was tell the truth.

@Pocky8 We will have one of either two tropes with the two girls: Either blunt-girl-mean/unassuming-girl-good or blunt-girl-good/unassuming-girl-fuckingEVIL. I tend to prefer the latter, it usually gives more dynamic to the group and tends to be more interesting.

@zenyo Unless I'm missing something, the prince was never personally mean to Marie. He killed her family, yes, very clearly. That's part of his political career. By no means am I saying to forget that, but that doesn't fit into the stereotype of being an asshole on a personal level. In his personal interactions, he has always been level and calm as well as intrigued and caring towards Marie. That should be a reason to think this could break the mould.

@shira952 They aren't really blind. Maybe what you said is true irl, but this is a manhwa. Like any other fictional story, it's going to follow the cliches and troupes. Meaning, this bitchy noble lady isn't gonna be nice, but a, well, bitch.
