It would’ve been better if the author killed the sister off and used it as character development for the FMC and maybe add a revenge arc for her. It would also give her and the MC something to bond over and maybe develop their relationship a bit. Overall this is a terrible use of a side character who would’ve been better off dead than alive (at least plot wise)....
