I keep forgetting that Yano himself is hiding a part of himself from other people.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention, or it wasn't shown that well, but I don't see the "masks" Yano shows to others as being so different from his usual self. Sure, I also talked differently when I was among friends in high school compared to how I spoke to my family at home, but to this day that doesn't really feel like I was pretending to be anything.

I think his personality flaw is that he "thinks" it's a mask, when they're both his true self.

Everyone has different "masks" that they show to different people at different times and circumstances, though I don't think it's too much to say some people have much more significant discrepancies with their internal self and how they present themselves. It's a typical issue in mental health, especially with depression, anxiety, and identity issues like with transgender people.

His internal struggle is meant to parallel the one his crush(es) are going through on a different scale, so it's what makes them relatable to one another @pip25 @TitanAnteus

MC thinks way too much into his behaviour, that is how most people are. Depending on the situation and location people might seem to have different personalities in real life as well.

tfw you guys are overthinking while calling out the MC for overthinking... His mask is a mask everyone has, he is hiding his true feelings and never shares those with anyone, only behaves the way he is expected to behave under any circumstances... Nothing less, nothing more... Which is incredibly "normal" and "everyone does it" but that doesnt make it less of a problem still...
