A "pick-up artist" senpai wanted to go on a date with Yamada and he invited Kobayashi as a means of being a decoy. He's simply using her to get to Yamada. Yamada wants to explain to Kobayashi, but the roundabout way she did it lead to a rift forming btween Yamada and Kobayashi. Ichikawa doesn't do anything (because I guess the author thinks that whenever Yamada and her friend group have personal issues, Ichikawa should just not be a part of Yamada's day to day life). Kobayashi learns the truth from another one of her friends and she and Yamada forgive each other in their own way.

Also, the more I read this story, the more I think that the "romance" aspect of the manga is all in Ichikawa's head. I may have missed something, but there's not really anything that suggests that Yamada sees Ichikawa as more than a friend, if not acquaintance. She gets more romantic with the girls in her friend group like Kobayashi.

Ichikawa doesn't think Yamada likes him or something, he is just happy he can talk to her, it's in character for him to not intervene in Yamada's group problems, after all they aren't his friends,in a previous chapter he only got out of the way for them to solve their problem.

A chapter like this does help us remember that most of the turmoil that goes on in this series is mostly on Ichikawa. He understands that it's all in his head too - problem is that even though he understands that, hormones and puberty doesn't get easier just because you understand it.

Reread chapter 19 look at her reactions when she thinks he’s on a date but then finds out it’s his sister. She’s interested.

Also the extra chapters, she keeps trying to learn more about him. Even the chapter where she broke her nose, she wasn’t paying attention to the game because she was starting at the MC

If it seems anything romantic to you, it's probably more just flirting if not spoiling the spoiled Yamada. Kobayashi is labeled as the "boyfriend" but that was never something to be taken seriously.

there hasn't been any romance here

Sheesh. This pickup artist really doesn't stop, huh? I find the iron wall to be cute in her own right, so that's just mean. At the end of the day, Yamada needs to tell him off herself.

I haven't considered the idea that she wasn't interested in him for a long time now. It seems pretty apparent to me by now. They aren't getting anywhere, but there's something there.

@Psychronia Huh, I thought the character that appeared this chapter as "pickup-pal" is new. I think you're confusing him with that other guy in class from the "perverted" group. Even though it says pickup-pal has been hitting on her for a while I think he only appears this chapter.
I admit, I also thought it was the same guy until they mentioned him being a "senpai".
