Up until now Charlotte herself has been the first one to doubt Slow's attempts to make himself a better man, yet now we are supposed to believe she's genuinely concerned about how her reports to the main house have been received with little faith? I'd say she in fact didn't herself genuinely believe in what she was reporting, but being the hypocrite that she is, she's angry when someone doesn't believe her, even though she herself doesn't believe others.

So, he would be analysing the encounter with 120% efficiency, to judge whether there was anything suspicious about it.

There's a bunch of people who allow him to prove himself and then judge him based on his actions, despite the rumours. Of course those people are less affected by his less than stellar past, unlike Charlotte, so I'm not actually accusing Charlotte too deeply of being negative about Slow, I'm just annoyed by how disrespectful she is to her superior (which Slow is) and how Slow likes her so much despite her poor attitude. There would be better girls around for Slow, and Charlotte could go for the hero dude like she did in the original story.
