@Niconicoknee true, nowadays it's switched. But I'm glad about this little detail. It's historically correct that the poorer you were, the darker your bread was. But that rice bread seems a bit... Rice has no gluten, so you can't make bread with it.
@DonGiovanni She wasn't saying they ate rice bread, but that they ate rice and the other place ate WHITE bread, meaning it was made using polished or bleached flour.
@Niconicoknee that's because rye is less common and thus more expensive in our world. It used to be one of the most commom cereal grains, especially in northern latitudes, where is grows well despite the cold.
