I'm starting to think that the Teacher doesn't regenerate at the cellular level, but he pops back into existence fully intact and with all his memories. That would explain why the stone "hammer" exploded, it was occupying the space the Teacher was in, so when he re-popped the stone was forced to expand due to the displacement of molecules.
