Hibiki - Shousetsuka ni Naru Houhou - Vol. 5 Ch. 39 - Preparation.

Hibiki, you did nothing wrong, but you monster !
Damn. This get me hype more than any action genre

Damn author, don't make me sympathize with the other contestants just to make hibiki win in the end.

She is smart enough to realize that awards are usually full of crap.

Props for that age, but then again, she's also the best novelist ever so I don't know if it's worth much.

Shouldn't they be able to make an okay living even if they don't win the Akutagawa prize? If their works are good enough to be nominated multiple times I can't imagine publishers not reaching out for even a modest book deal.

I hope Hibiki wins! Sure, I feel sympathetic to the other contestants, but I like Hibiki too.

@irrelevance990 Well, they have been, except for them, they would have to abandon their passion.

I like how this story shows us that people are more than just what they make, even if Hibiki has literally stated that authors are no more than their works.

Pure literature doesn't always sell well.
It's like fine arts, not everybody loves them, not everyone would spend money for them.

The judges, who are mostly senior writers, might nominate some works that they think worth to win the award.
But their taste are not the same as common people's taste.
Many award-winning works sell less than some light novels. This should answer a lot.
(For examples, Konbini Ningen that won Akutagawa in 2016 was sold around 650000 copies, while SAO sold 1.1M copies that year)

To be fair, life experiences are a lot more useful then just milling about. Who knows, maybe pandas will be important for later?

don't wanna @ someone here just to correct them, but it's been implied that hibiki isn't the best author ever, just one that really pops out and has immense talent for writing. with that said, she's really smart with making the zoo trip into a main distraction for her, fumi, and her friends, even though there's no point in their world because she's been set up to win.

i really feel bad for the other authors that are hoping to win, and it really is cruel for someone like hibiki to just win, but that's a prodigy for you. i'm not angry at hibiki or anything, but it's truly unfortunate and cruel towards the other authors. although, i only skimmed through the story of the other authors

Hibiki will break the prize and share it with everyone. You get a prize! And you get a prize! And you g-...!

For those asking why the others wouldn't have a nice income if they got to the end so many times. Who were the finalists for the Oscars? The Voice? America's Got Talent? And, of course, who's the last finalist of a literary prize you read? Do you even know the winner of any literary prizes?

Actually read "Konbini Ningen" and still not entirely sure what the author wanted to say with it, but it was an interesting read.

And the number of disappointed faces and hopes crumbling increases. Also, poor Fumi's wallet.
