man, it wouldn't be as jarring if like.... the date happened over the course of a few days (as in they steadily met each other and hung out), but the fact that they had one (1) date AND this noblewoman came up to cause trouble, the pacing in this chapter feels jarring. i think it would have been better to cut off the chapter before running into the carriage. not every single chapter needs to end on a ~cliffhanger~
