@intmanga power disparity and a teaching/guiding role are inseparable from sexuality itself. everyone knew that until the last 100 years, japan knew it until we changed their minds at gunpoint. a taboo on men and women getting together without family approval makes perfect sense, but one specifically on teacher-student relationships but not on student-student relationships doesn't.

@cksn I get your point, but in the same way that there are tons of offices where its forbidden to hook up with your colleagues, you are also not supposed to hook up with students, a teacher is in a school to work, if you are interested in a student, at least wait till they graduate.
