The problem with akira's philosophy is that he's picking an absolute, humans are not fundamentally anything. With animals, you can predict what they'll do because they're animals, only concerned with survival and the next generation, and basically the same wherever you go, but humans with their sentience and wildly differing backgrounds can act all sorts of ways.
