What if that child completely took after Karl, he totally would have killed the child. What if it was a boy? He would have killed it. What if she where born without eyes. Killed it. The difference between a lot of these stories with the emotionless filicidal kings and Karl is that his mind was filled with grief over the passing of his beloved, and emotions tend to run counter to logic.
Yes, it'd be fucking awful for him to kill his child out of despair, but it's a different kind of awful from the thoughtless culling of offspring borne from misanthropy

People are giving Karl too much crap. He was born as an adult and has never known children. And his father was more like a CEO, not a father. He never had a mother. He's LITERALLY learning how to be a father.

So to those of you mad a Karl because he almost murmured his child, he was in a sever mentally disturbed state. His wife had just died, presumably just before he got there. He probably had the power to save her or if he didn’t that just compounded the disruption to his mind. He tried to find soothing to blame this on and his mind settled on the child. I have heard stories where parents blame the child for a spouses accidental death and see it on dramas all the time. How is this a shock?

His reaction is normal. My uncle did that to his child. If it wasn't for his sister and the nurses who beat the ever living crap out of him and adopted his kid, he probably would have killed him. The dumb fuck even now claims the kid died with his first wife. Useless piece of crap.

For every time I hear of a father accepting the child of a wife who died during the birth, I also hear of useless horrible people that don't.
